Our members are the local governments of Massachusetts and their elected and appointed leadership.
Under the supervision of the Foreman A, the General Mechanic A assists in the installation and repair of the underground water distribution and sewer collection systems and performs a wide variety of duties such as repairing or replacing various sewer or water system components, valves, meters, gate boxes, etc. Duties also include locating leaks in the system and taking necessary corrective actions; tapping water and sewer mains for the service connections; cleaning pipes and storage facilities; digging to locate leaks; working with the pumping station operators to maintain and repair the equipment in the stations; taking water samples; restoring residential landscaping to original conditions. Other duties include snow and ice removal, emergency, standby and all other related tasks as required. Periodically may act as Leadman directing crews. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid MA Class B CDL with airbrake and tanker endorsement, a Hoisting 1C (forklift) license, and a Board of Certification of Operators of Drinking Water Supply Facilities, Grade 1D.
