The city of Fitchburg is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head Motor Equipment Repairer within the Streets Division of the Department of Public Works. Under limited supervision of the Superintendent of Streets and/or his/her designee, while leading a crew of workers in lower level positions or working individually, this position is responsible for the safety, maintenance and repair of the Public Works equipment. Incumbent schedules work assignments, enforces safety regulations, maintains discipline and orders supplies and equipment as needed. Inspects work of motor repair crew during assignments and at completion for compliance with instructions and with accepted standards and practices. In all cases, the incumbent performs the same skilled craft duties as his/her crew. Position requires extensive overtime in winter months.
The ideal candidate for this position will have be a graduate of a curriculum specializing in vehicle repair, automotive technology or related field, from an accredited vocational/technical school, followed by at least five years of paid, full-time experience. S/he must a valid Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles Commercial (CDL) Class B license with an “X endorsement and a valid Massachusetts Department of Public Safety Hoisting license, with 2B and 3B restrictions codes (backhoe and front-end loader).
