The town of Pepperell seeks a qualified professional for the position of Highway Superintendent. The position is a full-time supervisor of nine or more employees and is responsible for the administrative and technical work in the planning, directing, and managing of operations for the Highway Department. Areas of responsibility include streets and drains, snow removal, highway vehicle and equipment maintenance, Transfer Station operations, and related work as required. The Highway Superintendent is also the town Tree Warden. Familiarity and experience with MassDOT and the Chapter 90 program is essential and a working knowledge and understanding of a pavement management program is strongly desired. The successful candidate must be able to perform all essential functions and duties identified in the job description, must have prior supervisory, must be organized with administrative, budget, computer, and financial management skills. He or she must possess excellent customer service skills including written and verbal communication. The position requires seven plus years of experience in public works operations, construction and maintenance including a minimum of three years of in a management role. A college degree, preferably in civil engineering is desirable; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. A CDL-A and Hoisting License is desirable. Applicant must pass a pre-employment physical including drug screening and a background check.
