The Lynnfield Public Works Department is a service driven department that operates in an extremely fast paced environment and responds to numerous inquiries on a wide range of subject matters on a daily basis. This position requires an energetic, pro-active professional and knowledgeable person to balance and prioritize situations and complete work under the direction of the Facilities Superintendent. The HVAC Tradesman provides leadership assistance to the DPW senior management team in the planning, coordination and management of all systems within town (municipal and school buildings) owned facilities and maintenance responsibilities of said systems. Manages and executes work as needed to make repairs and upgrades as required. This is a highly responsible advanced technical position which assists the Facilities Superintendent in problem solving, repairing, preparing cost estimates and program development to address infrastructure needs related to HVAC systems in buildings both long and short term for each facility. This position requires independent judgment, initiative and decision making along with frequent contact with other department heads, school personnel and private contractors and vendors. This position assists in providing leadership and direction for the facility mechanical functions including the daily planning, scheduling, supervision and oversight of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and alarm systems; building equipment, contracts and vendors. It is also responsible for ensuring operations and assignments of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems meet all service goals and all department standards and requirements, including financial, quality, safety, procurement and environmental.
This position performs HVAC maintenance/repair duties and other small projects as required throughout all School and Town properties under the control of Public Works. These municipal facilities include, but are not limited to Town Hall, the Police Station, Council on Aging Facility including the Senior Center and School Administration, Library, Public Works Operations Facility, Fire Headquarters and Administrative Building and other accessory municipal buildings as required throughout the town. Schools include Summer Street Elementary School, Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, Lynnfield Middle School and Lynnfield High School. The position may also operate cars, trucks up to one-ton, small power equipment, scissor lifts and power tools and other miscellaneous hand tools and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and requirements.
