Job Title:  industrial pretreatment program inspector

The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission (SWSC) is seeking a highly motivated and innovative candidate to work as an Industrial Pretreatment Program Inspector at our Joseph J. Superneau Operations Center in Springfield, MA. This role conducts field visits to industrial plants, commercial establishments and municipal locations to check compliance with federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations and the requirements of the Cost Recovery Billing System and the Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP).


  • Knowledge of federal, state and local statutes and regulations concerning the Industrial Pretreatment Program and of various manufacturing processes and proper procedures for disposing of industrial wastes.
  • Knowledge and experience with proper wastewater sampling techniques and flow measurement.
  • Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions during site inspections.
  • Must possess and maintain a current Driver’s License.
  • Must possess and maintain a Grade II Wastewater Operators License (in training) issued by the State of Massachusetts.
  • Graduation from high school plus minimum two years of college in Engineering or a related Environmental Science.
  • One year of wastewater or industrial treatment experience, which may include laboratory experience.
