Job Description

The city of Lowell is seeking qualified, diligent, and energetic candidates for the position of Inspector of Buildings/Building Commissioner. This position is located within the city’s Department of Planning and Development, in the Division of Development Services and is responsible for managing code enforcement services, administering and enforcing various codes and regulations for building, electrical, plumbing/gas, energy, health, sanitary, housing, zoning, and weights and measures. Develops, implements, and oversees appropriate methods for streamlining and tracking the delivery of services while at the same time taking into account neighborhood concerns and complying with regulations. Possession of Massachusetts Certification as Inspector of Buildings/Building Commissioner; At least five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design or in the alternative a four-year undergraduate degree in a field related to building construction or design, or any combination of education and experience; Management and supervisory experience with personnel; Valid Driver’s License required. High School Diploma or Equivalency. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Salary range: $133,576.52 (min) to $156,939.78 (max) annual; 35 hours/week.
