Jail Diversion Independent Licensed Mental Health Professional
Stoughton Police Co-Response Program – Stoughton Police Department

The town of Stoughton is seeking applicants to fill this full time (40 hours/week), benefited, grant funded position, which will be an embedded resource within the Stoughton Police department reporting to the Chief of Police.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary function of the clinician will be to co-respond with law enforcement to 911 emergencies and calls for service to persons in the community who are experiencing a crisis. The Co-Response Clinician will be available to all units within the Stoughton Police department, providing crisis assessment and support on calls for service, as well as participating in overdose follow ups. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling field
  • Licensed as LMHC, LICSW, LADC,1
  • Minimum one year of post-graduate crisis work
  • Experience working with law enforcement
  • Satisfactorily pass Stoughton Police background investigation, including criminal history check
  • CJIS compliant within 30 days
  • Possess and maintain valid motor vehicle operator’s license and acceptable driving record 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High degree of organization, time management and excellent attention to detail with strong clinical writing skills
  • Understanding of Electronic Health Record systems and HIPAA compliance
  • Experience with diverse populations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with police partners, mental health clinicians, community agencies and the general public
  • Vast knowledge of resources on a local, and state level
  • Knowledge of law enforcement culture
  • Attend and actively participate in supervision, staff meetings and roll call
  • Participate in training and professional development
  • Basic knowledge of data entry and collection
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with all members of the police department
  • Flexible attitude, adaptability and strong coping mechanisms to deal with evolving scenarios and high pressure situations
  • Excellent judgment and confidence to perform evaluations of individuals in acute or chronic crisis and make rapid decisions during complicated scenarios in locations such as homes, schools, shelters and other community settings
  • Compassion and empathy for community members and law enforcement offers experiencing complex situations or circumstances
  • Present level of care assessments to managed care companies, hospitals and other agencies that offer appropriate services for client
  • Provide follow up services to individuals who have had an emergency encounter
  • Educate the community regarding the co-response model
  • Provide training to officers on topics that include, but not limited to, basic crisis intervention strategies, signs and symptoms of mental illness and suicide risk/prevention

SALARY: $38.31/Hr
