Legal Intern

The town of Falmouth is seeking an intern to assist with the Falmouth Housing Production Plan Update during the summer.

The intern will work with the Falmouth Housing Coordinator to research and compile affordable housing project information that will be organized and stored electronically. The intern will gain excellent experience in legal research and substantive knowledge of and exposure to the practice of affordable housing development and regulatory mechanisms to maintain affordability in perpetuity.

Specifically, the intern will be assigned to research, collect, and input data on comprehensive zoning permits, property deeds, and affordable housing regulatory agreements.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct affordable housing deed searches in town offices and online at county offices.
  • Index deeds, deed restrictions, mortgages, liens, and foreclosures.
  • Compile and input data into Town provided software.

The intern will work closely with the Housing Coordinator and town staff. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, productive and comfortable using technology. Previous deed experience, paralegal experience, or real estate experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Must be a second or third year law student
  2. Experience in land/real estate deed research or records management
  3. Interest in affordable housing law
  4. Available to work 15 hours per week

Assignment Date: July 2019 with possibility of extending through the fall

Compensation: $15- $20/hr. based upon experience and education
