The Town of Williamstown is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Local Building Inspector. This is a 5 day, 37.5 hour per week position working under the supervision of the Director of Community Development and the Building Commissioner. Responsibilities involve plan reviews and inspections of various building projects in the community as well as assisting members of the public with building related inquiries. Thorough knowledge of the State Building Code, field inspection practices, the materials and methods of building construction and equipment, accepted requirements for building construction, fire prevention, light, ventilation and safe egress is also required as is a strong commitment to high quality customer service.
Applicants must be certified as a Local Inspector or meet the qualifications of Mass General Law Chapter 143, Section 3, and 780 CMR 110.R7 to seek certification as a Local Inspector by the Massachusetts Building Official Certification Committee (BOCC). Preference will be given to pre-certified applicants. In order to be certified an applicant must meet one of the following criteria and pass all required exams within a year of appointment;
-5 years’ experience in the supervision of building construction or design.
-A 2 year associate degree in a field related to building construction or design.
-Any combination of education and experience which would confer equivalent knowledge and ability, as determined by the BOCC.
