The town of Weymouth is currently accepting applications for a Local Building Inspector. Works under the general direction of the Inspector of Buildings and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws and local ordinances. Majority of shift is spent in the field inspecting sites where there is frequent exposure to various weather conditions and the hazards associated with construction sites, including extreme temperatures of heat and cold and loud noises. Administrative work is performed under typical office conditions. May be required to work evenings and weekends to respond to emergency situations. Inspects new buildings under construction and upon completion, and repair and alteration work during process and upon completion for conformity with all code requirements and approved plans and with zoning restrictions. Provides responsive service on all complaints of property owners, tenants and others; investigates alleged violations and takes necessary actions if violations exist. Answers questions from the general public and building industry pertaining to building and zoning issues.

Five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design or Associate’s Degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts Certification as a Local Building Inspector within 12 months of hiring as per 780 CMR-R-7. All candidates that are offered a position with the town must successfully complete a background investigation, which includes a pre-employment physical, pre-placement drug test and a CORI/SORI search.
Hiring range is $68,559.24 to $84,501.53/annually DOQ and Budgetary restrictions.
