Wellesley’s Facilities Management Department (FMD) maintains and operates 28 buildings totaling over 1.2 million square feet, has a staff of 73, and an operating budget of $8.2 million. The FMD seeks to add a Mechanical Technician with both plumbing and HVAC skills to our maintenance staff. FMD supports our maintenance staff with regular professional development opportunities, tools/equipment and other resources needed to succeed.
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the incumbent’s primary responsibility is the maintenance of municipal and school buildings plumbing and HVAC systems and gas-fired equipment. The incumbent performs a full range of plumbing and HVAC duties including installation, renovation, repair and preventive maintenance. Work is performed in compliance with Massachusetts Plumbing and HVAC codes and is checked in progress or upon completion to ensure compliance.
The incumbent performs assigned tasks without close supervision, following established procedures, and is given direct and detailed instructions on new and different assignments. The incumbent must have a thorough understanding of the trade and be knowledgeable in the use of all trade tools and instruments. The work schedule requires some early morning, night, weekend, stand by and emergency work.
Requires: high school diploma or equivalent; five years’ experience as a professional plumber or HVAC technician in a commercial or industrial setting; a valid driver’s license, a valid Massachusetts Plumbers & Gasfitters Journeyman License, or Refrigeration Technician License. Familiarity with Metasys building controls by Johnson Controls, Inc. and School Dude work order system preferred.
Salary Range (as of July 1, 2019): up to $77,043, plus overtime as available.
