Seeking full time benefitted Operations Superintendent reporting to the Director of Public Works. Responsible for planning and organizing the daily activities of the Department, responds to emergencies and weather related hazards.

Duties: Administer and develop department budgets within guidelines.  Direct, lead and motivate employees; assign and prioritize work schedules as the situation dictates; monitor progress, schedule materials for projects.  Recommend staffing, training opportunities; conduct reviews, administer union contracts, personnel bylaws and policies with Supervisor; may serve as a member of the Town’s negotiating team for collective bargaining. Promote safe, efficient, cost-effective operation; ensures workforce compliance to all practices, procedures and requirements as mandated for Public Works operations. Participate in public hearings/meetings to provide information/technical support.  Prepares and reviews contracts/bid specifications for department purchases. Coordinate emergency response.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Public Works at least 5 years of supervisory/managerial experience, including exposure to project management, budgeting, contract administration or equivalent combination of education and experience. MCPPO training within 1 year of hire.  Must attend night and weekend meetings.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid Class D Driver’s License
  • OSHA-10 or able to obtain within1 year
  • OSHA Excavation Competent Person certification or able to obtain within 1 year or by the next available training period, whichever comes first.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CDL Class A, Hoisting License Class 2A
  • Experience in preparing and managing a Municipal Public Works Budget

Salary Range: $85,243.48$111,223.40
