The city of Newburyport is seeking an experienced and highly motivated full-time Planner (35 hours/week) to serve as a key customer contact and coordinator for the development permit processing ensuring lands and uses are being developed in accordance with zoning, land development, historic, building an health codes, city ordinances and other applicable regulations and plans. This position also provides support for the city’s affordable housing and community preservation initiatives.

Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in planning, urban studies, public administration or a related field and a minimum or three years of relevant planning experience. The successful candidate will possess strong knowledge of land use and zoning; technical ability for reading and interpreting blueprints; proficiency in use of computers (PC); and  excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have a valid drivers license with no driving related restrictions.

This position is paid by combination of salary and stipends. Depending on qualifications and experience, up to a maximum salary of $66,788.
