Job Description

The town of Sandwich is seeking a full-time, 40 hour per week, Planning and Zoning Coordinator who will administer Historic District Committee, Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Board regulatory processes and provide technical and procedural oversight to these Boards and Committee as needed. The position will coordinate preparation of meeting agendas, supervise the posting of meetings, public hearing notices and legal advertising with the department staff and will review applications submitted for completeness and conformance to applicable laws and regulations. Position will draft proposed decisions for Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals for their use during their deliberations. This staff position reports to the Director of Community Development, has an in-person work schedule of M-F with at least two evening meetings per month, on average. The successful candidate must have some knowledge of planning, zoning, historic preservation and economic development principles and techniques. Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field with one to three years of work experience in the planning or closely related field or any relevant combination of education & experience. Position requires strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with a wide array of stakeholder groups is essential.
