Great Barrington, MA (7,000 year-round pop. with 15,000 seasonal), seeks a dynamic and experienced law enforcement professional with demonstrated leadership and communication skills, who supports contemporary policing principles and practices and enjoys interacting with the community, to serve as its next Chief of Police. This beautiful and vibrant community is located in the Berkshire region of Massachusetts, approximately 135 miles from Boston. Great Barrington was listed as #1 on Smithsonian Magazine’s list of “The 20 Best Small Towns in America” in 2012. Great Barrington is led by a five-member Select Board, has an Open Town Meeting form of government, and a total general fund budget of $31.1 mil.  The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, or related field (advanced degree preferred) and at least 10 years of law enforcement experience, preferably including five years in a police leadership position. Candidates must be experienced in 21st century policing policies and practices, be open to new and progressive visions of policing, have community policing experience, and be skilled at community outreach. Candidates must have, or be able to obtain,
certification as a Massachusetts full-time police officer. The successful candidate will receive an attractive compensation package including health and retirement plans and an annual salary of $100K+/-, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Great Barrington is an EEO employer.
