The town of Avon Board of Health seeks qualified candidates for the position of Prevention Coordinator. The Prevention Coordinator will work to ensure the coalition continues to effectively mobilize the community of Avon in the reduction of underage substance use and the overall improvement of behavioral health in the community. They will implement best practices with a focus on awareness, prevention, intervention, and recovery.
The Prevention Coordinator will, with the guidance of the Board of Health and Steering Committee, formulate and interpret policies relating to the work of the coalition. The Coordinator will work independently to organize the daily operation of the coalition and facilitate coalition communication, data collection, research, training, and distribution of materials and information to the community. The Prevention Coordinator will engage youth and residents in prevention work and will plan and implement prevention strategies within the community of Avon using an environmental approach to support the mission of the Coalition.
The Coordinator will also be present at coalition sponsored actives and various community programs.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in prevention work, health promotion, public health, social work, or any related field. The successful candidate must be a Certified Massachusetts Prevention Specialist (or must be obtained within the first two years of hire). Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and an insured vehicle available for use on the job. History of working with a teenage population, experience with coalition work, community organizing, program development, substance use disorder, behavioral health, or work in the human service field is preferred. Grant writing and fiscal management experience preferred.
The Prevention Coordinator is an FSLA exempt position with a starting salary range between $50,000 to $52,000 DOQ.
