The town of Northborough (15,741 pop.) seeks a skilled and experienced professional with effective customer service and communication skills to serve as Principal Assessor. The Principal Assessor is responsible for managing the administration of the Town’s property appraisal systems. Northborough is in Worcester County, approximately 37 miles west of Boston. It has an approximate FY27 operating budget of $98 million, and an Aa1 rating. Position responsibilities include overseeing the appraisal of taxable property, managing the division’s information systems and databases, and working with town and state officials and the Board of Assessors to determine the town’s tax rate.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in business, assessing/appraising, and three to five years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Assessing. Mass Accredited Assessor (M.A.A.) Certification required within one to two years of employment. Requires Class D motor vehicle license, completion of Department of Revenue Course 101 within one year of appointment. Required to obtain a Certificate in Municipal Assessing with applicable designation of: Massachusetts Accredited Assessor, Residential Massachusetts Assessor or Certified Massachusetts Assessor.
The annual salary range for this full-time, Grade 7 position is $101,618 – $132,094, with comprehensive benefits. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
