The town of Wellesley is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Principal Assessor. This position is a full-time, 35-hour per week position. Reporting to the Chief Assessor, the Principal Assessor is responsible for the planning and executing of all aspects of the real estate field inspection program in accordance with nationally recognized standards and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue guidelines. The Principal Assessor’s primary responsibility is to review and verify that residential and commercial properties within the town are accurately described and recorded. The incumbent uses his/her own vehicle for site work, to attend meetings/training, and may be required to work outside normal business hours at the convenience of property owners.
Duties include establishing and conducting systematic field reviews of all properties to comply with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue-mandated inspection requirements, preparing scaled sketches of building footprints, assisting with maintenance of field cards, inputting of data into the town’s Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) database and answering the public’s requests for information pertaining to property assessments, statutory exemptions, abatements and motor vehicle excise.
Requires a bachelor’s degree with three years professional experience in assessment administration, real estate appraisal or related business experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Demonstrated ability to read building plans and deeds and have a strong aptitude for working with numbers, including statistics and geometry. Mass. real estate appraisal license or Mass. Accredited Assessor (MAA) designation, or International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) designation, or eligibility for designation within two years of employment. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and possession of a valid driver’s license a must. The anticipated hiring range is $62,000-$68,000. Full salary range is $62,000 to $77,000 DOQ.
