The city of Leominster, Massachusetts is currently seeking a full-time (38.25 hours/week) Principal Clerk in the Assessor’s Office to perform a variety of secretarial, clerical, bookkeeping and administrative tasks in support of the Chief Assessor, Assistant Assessors and Principle Clerk.

Under the supervision of the Head Clerk and by the direction of the Chief Assessor, but with the ability to work independently, the Principal Clerk is primarily responsible for providing excellent service to the Department’s customers, and managing departmental workflows for reporting, payroll, scheduling, and data entry. The work requires knowledge of applicable sections of the city’s ordinances, policies, procedures and applicable Massachusetts General Laws pertaining to Motor Vehicle Excise and Property Tax. The position requires tact and diplomacy when interacting with Department and town personnel and all members of the public.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma, three to five years of administrative or paralegal experience in an office environment or similar work experience. Familiarity with Munis or other accounting software and Vision appraisal software preferred but not required. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated attention to detail. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Computer literacy, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Etc. A valid Massachusetts Driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.

Physical Requirements: May spend sustained periods at a terminal or on a telephone.

Annual Salary Range: $38,521 – $49,719 with 8 steps. The mandated starting salary by ordinance is $38,521.
