Director of Public Health

Town of West Springfield

The town of West Springfield seeks a collaborative and experienced professional to serve as Director of Public Health. The Director acts as the town’s chief public health official and oversees all Health Department operations in accordance with local, state, and federal laws, including regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Responsibilities include administration and enforcement of public health and environmental programs; permitting and licensing for food establishments, housing, pools, camps, tobacco sales, and special events; oversight of animal control and rabies programs; emergency preparedness planning and shelter operations; budget development; grant management; and supervision of staff. The Director advises Town officials, supports the Board of Health, and represents the town in public health matters.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, or related field and three to five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination. Valid Massachusetts driver’s license required. Certain state certifications must be obtained within two years of hire.
