Recreation Supervisor

Job Description

The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, direct, instruct and supervise a variety of recreation programs and activities. These activities occur primarily at or within dity recreational facilities both indoors and outdoors. A Recreation Supervisor is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control. Plans and provides a wide range of activities for all residents from preschoolers to adults. Programs include both active and passive activities including but not limited to; athletics, fitness, arts & crafts, music and drama, special outings and field trips, special events and holiday activities; ensures the safety and wellbeing of all participants. Researches, plans and establishes long-range goals and objectives for recreational programs and activities; supervises and conducts program registrations, and assists with Department’s website and future social media outreach. Works closely with Department’s other Recreation Supervisors and in collaboration with other agencies involved with recreation and in designing programs, securing necessary facilities, and determining levels of community interest in programs. Plans, supervises and instructs as a staff member of the summer programs for children. Interviews, recommends, and trains seasonal, part-time, and specialized instructors, as well as, referees, and officials for competitive athletic events; hire/fire and disciplinary actions; develops and enforces participant safety requirements. Inspects facilities and ensure the appropriate training of instructors and supervisors in necessary skills. Purchases and maintains inventory of recreational equipment supplies and materials, supervises the use and care of facilities and materials. Prepares seasonal programs brochures, social media posts, and other materials to promote department activities to the community both in print and on the Department’s website and future social media communications. Explains and enforces the general policies of the department; advises the general public on the availability and types of services, area conditions, and locations; motivates citizens to participate in community programs. Works closely with school officials and community representatives in designing programs, locating necessary facilities to offer programming and assists with determining the community’s interests for additional and future programs and services to be offered.  

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in municipal recreation administration, leisure studies, physical education or related field; three years of municipal recreation experience including supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must successfully pass a Criminal Offenders Record Information and a pre-employment physical with drug and alcohol screening. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. C.P.R. and First Aid certification. 

Salary: $79,685
