The Metacomet Public Health Alliance, through the town of Franklin is hiring a full-time Epidemiologist for a grant-funded position. The position would start immediately and is currently funded through June 30, 2023, with potential to extend beyond that.

The Metacomet Public Health Alliance is a collaboration among the towns of Franklin, Norfolk and Wrentham to provide professional public health services and programs for the member communities. The Regional Epidemiologist will be a town of Franklin employee, but work with all three communities.  They will report to Franklin’s Director of Public Health.

The Epidemiologist will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Investigate communicable disease and chronic disease trends in Franklin, Wrentham and Norfolk utilizing available data, including local and federal census data, statewide reportable disease data, and other data sources.
  • Analyze data for clusters and patterns to help inform prevention and intervention activities.
  • Present data and recommendations to stakeholders in the community.
  • Assist in developing public health and wellness initiatives to address and prevent disease.
  • Identify high-risk populations and areas of growing public health need.
  • Investigate disparities on how communicable diseases, such as COVID-19, affect different segments of the community.
  • Participate in the MA Department of Public Health’s local public health data reporting system.
  • Support the various health departments with communicable disease tracking, case management, and contact tracing.
  • Collaborate with municipalities on various issues as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Minimum of three years working in public health, healthcare, or government
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Active listening skills and high emotional intelligence
  • Ability to use sound independent judgment and work independently
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population with a wide range of social conditions
  • Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality, and act with ethical conduct
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite products
  • Valid Massachusetts’ driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a master’s of public health or a master’s of science in epidemiology.
  • Experience using MAVEN.

The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States and be able to pass a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug test.
