The town of Watertown is seeking to fill a dynamic position in a vision-focused Department of Community Development and Planning. This position supports the efforts of the Conservation Commission and acts as the town’s Conservation Agent. The position will also provide a critical role in the town’s planning efforts in regard to sustainability planning and implementation, open space and recreation planning, and preservation planning. Collaboration and teamwork are critical to this position’s role within the Department and the community. The position will work on a wide range of projects which connects the work directly to the community and will include some night meetings. Some current work priorities include: Open Space and Recreation planning, Vulnerability/Climate Resilience planning, and support for Community Preservation planning; Coordinating, planning and supporting community events; Completing regulatory documents necessary for project approvals; Contributing to social media, websites, newsletters, and informational booklets; Working with the public, committees, and applicants and developing community engagement tools/methods; Analyzing and developing data for environmental and preservation planning (GIS, graphics, etc.). Works under the administrative direction of the Director of Community Development and Planning/Assistant Town Manager in accordance with state and local laws and regulations; the employee functions independently, consulting with the Director or Boards and Commissions when clarification or interpretation of policy or procedures is required. Minimum Qualifications: bachelor’s degree in planning or related field, and three years of planning and/or conservation experience, masters degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated proficiency required in computer skills, and GIS skills strongly preferred. The expected hiring range to be $62,079 – $65,860 with an excellent benefit package which includes health insurance, paid sick, vacation, personal days, holidays; flexible spending plans, and deferred compensation plans to supplement the pension benefit.
