The town of Watertown seeks a Senior Environmental Planner to provide environmental analysis of Conservation Commission jurisdictional issues, development projects and coordinate the town’s conservation functions and historic preservation efforts; serve as the Conservation Agent for the town, and may function as the preservation agent for the town. Responsible to prepare monthly information packages for the Conservation Commission, Historical Commission, Historic District Commission; write staff reports; review plans and legal documents; make recommendations, and maintain pertinent portion of web page. Meets with developers, residents, architects, and lawyers to review potential development projects and provide information on the town’s behalf. This position develops regulatory amendments including the Zoning Ordinance, Wetland Regulations, or other codes, and coordinates the hearing process; performs site visits and verifies the definition of the environmental features of a site; reviews all requests for demolition permits for compliance with the demolition delay ordinance applies for and administers state and federal grant funds. Performs similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates. Works under the administrative direction of the Director of Community Development and Planning/Assistant Town Manager in accordance with state and local laws and regulations; the employee functions independently, consulting with the Director or Boards and Commissions when clarification or interpretation of policy or procedures is required. Required minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field, and three years of planning and/or conservation experience, masters degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated proficiency required in computer skills, and GIS skills strongly preferred. Salary range begins: $62,080 with an excellent benefit package.
