The town of Watertown seeks an individual for supervisory oversight of day-to-day operations of the town’s water distribution and sanitary and storm sewer systems. This is an interim position. The work involves the application of technical knowledge and supervisory skill to a variety of projects. Under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Public Works and the Utility Superintendent /Assistant Water Superintendent, the employee has wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgement in making technical and operating decisions. Supervises the construction of extensions to the water, sewer and drain distribution and collection systems and the installation of underground structures. Supervises water and sewer system maintenance projects. Directs excavation projects and back filling of excavations. The employee has supervisory responsibilities including prioritizes work, assigns work to employees, coordinates with vendors and monitors progress, and manages other operating and safety procedures. Coordinates activities of water meter readers with administrative staff. Responsible for water line disinfection procedures and testing of water in conformance with public health standards. Other responsibilities as required. Required Minimum Qualifications: High school graduate or GED and five years’ experience in Public Works construction and maintenance, one of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in related fields. Current Massachusetts D3 Water Distribution License required, Cross-Connection Surveyor Certification required within six months. Additional Requirements: Must possess valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s license and have a good driving record. Position is subject to CORI background check and U.S. Department of Transportation controlled substance screening procedures. Expected hiring range is $75,362 – $84,822 per year, plus excellent benefits.
