The city of Worcester seeks candidates for the position of Supervisor of Payroll-Tax Compliance. Under the direction of the Assistant Treasurer, this position oversees the execution of key internal control procedures to ensure that city payrolls, withholdings and reporting are compliant. This position requires competence with regard to payroll law to assure the timely, valid, accurate issuance of payroll and withholdings in accordance with state and federal law. The Supervisor of Payroll-Tax Compliance is also responsible for ensuring all transactions are processed in accordance with Treasurer and Collector’s policies and procedures and promptly and accurately recorded in city’s books and records. Oversees the work of one accounting/payroll staff.
The qualified applicant will have supervisory experience in taxation/payroll; competence in payroll taxation and laws; experience with robust, high transaction volume financial systems and ledgers; strong analytical and organizational skills, accuracy, detail orientation; strong collaborative and communication (written/verbal) skills. Supervisor of Payroll-Tax Compliance will have the ability to work independently, consistently, reliably meet established deadlines; to perform under pressure in a fast paced environment; to establish and maintain good working relationships; and to interpret laws, policies, regulations, procedures.
SALARY RANGE: $23.17 – $30.88 hourly, full-time
