The town of Charlton (pop. 12,355) seeks a dynamic, seasoned leader to serve as its next Town Administrator. This fiscally sound, highly desirable community (43.8 sq. mi.) known for its excellent school system and scenic views is located in south central Massachusetts approximately 20 miles west of Worcester. It has an open Town Meeting form of government with an (elected) five-member Board of Selectmen. The annual budget is approximately $30.1 million.
Duties include, but are not limited to, administering and coordinating town departments, personnel and programs for the effective delivery of government services to residents of the town. Successful candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree, preferably in public administration or related field and a minimum five years’ experience in public administration at a management/supervisory level. A master’s degree in public administration or related field is preferred. Strong leadership and solid background in financial management, grant application and administration, personnel, computer management, project management, labor relations, capital budget development, communicating in a diverse organization and community development required. Candidates must have a proven track record working in a community with an active citizenry and a demand for strong community participation and be capable of working with several independent boards and committees. Compensation is competitive and negotiable. A preliminary salary range of $80,000 to $140,000 has been established.
