Great Barrington, MA (7,000 year-round pop. with 15,000 seasonal), is seeking a municipal management professional with strong leadership abilities and excellent communication skills, interested in a tenure of at least five years, to serve as its next Town Manager. This beautiful and vibrant community is located in the Berkshire region of Massachusetts, approximately 135 miles from Boston. Great Barrington was listed as #1 on Smithsonian Magazine’s list of “The 20 Best Small Towns in America” in 2012. Great Barrington is led by a five-member Select Board, has an Open Town Meeting form of government, and a total general fund budget of approximately $27.5 million. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in public administration or related field (master’s degree preferred) and at least five years of relevant municipal management experience,with demonstrated skills and abilities in municipal finance and budgeting, personnel administration, economic and community development, project management, labor relations, and intergovernmental relations. Candidates should have a proven record of leadership and strategic vision, and be team oriented and able to build cooperative and collaborative relationships with appointed/elected officials, citizens, and town employees. The successful candidate will receive an attractive compensation package including health and retirement plans and an annual salary of $120K+/-, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
