Ashland (18,000) is seeking an experienced and collaborative Town Planner to direct programs regarding municipal planning, zoning, and subdivision matters within the town. The Town Planner is the department head for the Planning Office; works with committees, department heads and the public; is responsible for coordinating all planning activities in the town; provides professional planning and land use advice, including presentations to the Planning Board, other public officials and the public, serves as staff support to the Planning Board; reviews and evaluates all development plans for compliance, ensures plans are developed as approved; and servers as liaison to various local and regional committees on behalf of the town and/or Planning Board. The Town Planner, who reports to the Assistant Town Manager who serves as Community Development and Health Director, provides technical advice to citizens and support to the Planning Board, and seeks and secures grants to support planning-related activities.
The successful candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree in land use, community, regional or urban planning, landscape architecture, engineering or a closely related field with five years of experience; master’s degree preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification is desired. Ashland is an EOE/AA employer
