The town of Dennis, Massachusetts, population 14,000, is seeking qualified applicants with exceptional leadership qualities for the position of Town Planner. The Town Planner performs professional and administrative duties in planning, organizing and coordinating the town’s planning, land use and appeals office, including the provision of staff support for the Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Board, Economic Development Committee and Zoning Bylaw Study Committee. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.

Under administrative direction of the Town Administrator, the employee works from municipal policies and objectives; short and long-range goals and objectives and assumes direct accountability for department results. This position requires strong management skills, excellent communication skills, both oral and written and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including employees, citizens, boards, committees, and professional organizations.

The minimum qualifications for the position include bachelor’s degree with a master’s degree preferred in urban planning or a related field; five to seven years’ municipal planning experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Certification as Planner by the AICP is recommended.
