The town of Plymouth seeks qualified applicants for the position of Transportation Engineer for the Department of Public Works, Engineering Division.

Administrative, supervisory, and technical work. Designs, reviews, and assists in the management of transportation capital improvement projects. Prepares engineering designs, specifications, costs, and quantity estimates for projects involving transportation and traffic, and evaluates existing and proposed systems. Supervises a small work crew. Works under the general supervision of the Town Engineer. Operates light trucks, hand tools, and office equipment. Works with the public, utility companies, developers, state and federal agencies, consultants, and local organizations.

Work is generally performed outdoors, subject to various and often unpleasant weather conditions and hazards associated with construction sites. Work is also conducted under typical office conditions. May also require work outside of normal business hours.

Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering required; five years of progressively relevant engineering experience with some supervisory experience; experience in a municipal setting is desirable; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Registered professional engineer’s license (PE) or engineer in training (EIT). Thorough knowledge of computer software (Word, Excel, GIS/CAD). Valid Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator’s license.
