Reporting to the Town Administrator, the Tree Warden position is responsible for the coordination of planning efforts for tree maintenance, care and planting throughout the town, and carrying out the requirements of MGL Ch. 87 and town bylaw CH 177-8. Responsibilities include the development of plans for tree maintenance, removal and replacement as well as establishing an inventory and assessment of trees town wide; enhancement of educational programs for the general public regarding trees; identification of and participation in grant programs at the state and federal levels; and inspection of public shade trees for disease or safety reasons. The ideal candidate for this position must meet and maintain all professional requirements required by MGL c.87 and town bylaw CH 177-8 and have experience interacting with the public and citizen groups. Preferred background includes five years of arboriculture work experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience as well as being a MA Certified Arborist or International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist or must be able to obtain within three months of hire.
