The town of Westford Water Department is seeking a Utility Specialist to assist with maintenance and routine assignments as necessary for drinking water treatment and distribution system operations. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, operating, maintaining, and repairing heavy equipment/department vehicles; performing scheduled and special readings of residential, commercial, and/or industrial water meters; working with Business Manager and Office Staff to obtain second readings to ensure accuracy of billing; recording and maintaining information such as locations of service lines, gates, hydrants, water mains, meters, back-flow prevention devices, and valves; inspecting the installation of water mains performed by private contractors. Must be able to obtain Massachusetts Grade 1 Distribution or Treatment License within one year. Basic knowledge of water hydraulics, electrical systems, plumbing, construction, and pump station and distribution system information is beneficial. Must possess verbal and written communication skills and basic office skills. Must adhere to safety practices pertaining to the water and construction industry. Primarily a field position and must be able to respond to an emergency regardless of weather conditions. Must have a high school diploma and valid driver’s license. May require following licenses: Hoisting Operator, Class II Commercial Drivers License. Salary Range: $20.98/hr to $27.40/hr.
