Job Description

The city of Newburyport is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator. This full-time position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment facility, including monitoring and controlling treatment processes, maintaining equipment, documenting operations, performing repairs and manual labor, and operating CDL vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of training and/or experience in wastewater treatment systems and heavy vehicle operation, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid CDL Class B license with air brakes and tanker endorsements.
  • Ability to comply with CDL drug testing requirements.
  • Possess, or obtain within one year of hire, a Massachusetts Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Operator License.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical, reference check, and CORI check.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Full-time (40 hours per week).
  • Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with required overtime.
  • AFSCME Union position.
  • Hourly wage: $30.59–$35.99, based on contractual step placement.
