City of Newburyport, Massachusetts

The city of Newburyport is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Wastewater Treatment Facility Equipment Repair Technician. This position performs skilled technical and mechanical work maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment and pump systems at the c2ity’s wastewater treatment facilities. Duties include preventive maintenance, mechanical and plumbing repairs, manual labor, and operation of CDL vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; two to five years of experience in wastewater treatment plant maintenance, mechanical/plumbing work, and heavy vehicle operation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to operate a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), possess a valid driver’s license, obtain a CDL Class B with air brakes within three months of hire, and obtain a Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License (2A & 1C) within six months. Grade 4 Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Certification is preferred. CDL drug testing is required.

This is a full-time, 40-hour/week AFSCME Union position, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.–3 p.m., with required overtime. Starting hourly rate: $31.83–$37.49, based on contractual step placement. Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment physical, reference check, and CORI check.
