The town of South Hadley is seeking applicants for the position of full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor for the WWTP and four pumping stations. This individual will be responsible for directing all operations concerned with the treatment, maintenance, operation and administration of plant functions and personnel.
The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in water treatment systems; considerable knowledge of water treatment plant operation and maintenance. Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment. Ability to interpret specific chemical and biological analyses; ability to guide, direct and motivate employees; ability to plan, organize and supervise the activities of work crew performing construction and maintenance work. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; intermediate office skills, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
The candidate will need to be proficient in the operations and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and pumping stations, in order to meet Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Massachusetts General Law requirements. Prepares for DEP and EPA requirements, all written annual reports and inspections on sludge, alarms, inspections of pumping stations, staffing, sewer collection systems, and nitrogen removal.
Assigns daily work, plans, schedules and implements construction, maintenance, and operation and construction activities designed to provide quality wastewater treatment for the town; oversees construction and maintenance work to determine acceptability and conformance to standards.
Analyzes and evaluates operation and maintenance functions; initiates and recommends new and improved practices. Coordinates, assigns and directs preparation of data and related reports to meet the requirements of the EPA, MA DEP or other organizations as needed. Coordinates and reviews all relative data related to the treatment plant and pumping stations. Designates essential personnel.
Licensure requirements include Massachusetts State Wastewater Treatment Certification Grade VI (6) or VII (7), Grade III (3) Collection System certification preferred as established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Certification of Operators of Water Treatment Facilities.
Educational and experience requirements include associate’s degree in physical, chemical, or biological sciences, or a closely related field; and five years of experience in operating Grade VI (6) or VII (7) water treatment facilities with at least three years in a supervisory capacity or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Salary range $64,000 – $70,000 DOE/DOQ and contingent upon a successful CORI check.
