The town of Andover Water Division ensures the integrity of the water supplies and the surrounding water shed areas. It is also responsible for the treatment, quality control and distribution of the water in accordance with all federal and state regulations for delivery of the drinking water to the consumers.
The division is accountable for the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, and distribution system, in addition to the customer services involving water meter installation, repair, meter reading, and resolving customer complaints. In 2018, Andover’s Water Division treated and delivered over 2 billion gallons of water to the towns of Andover and neighboring North Reading.
Under the general direction of the Director of Public Works the Water Distribution & Waste Collection System Superintendent is responsible for the direction, supervision and coordination of the Water/Sewer Maintenance Shop operations and personnel. Oversee water distribution and wastewater collection system, construction and maintenance, maintenance of heavy equipment and shop machinery, and all other water/sewer infrastructure maintenance as required; perform other related duties following established methods and procedures.
Successful candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree, preferably in civil engineering, with five to seven years progressively responsible experience in water distribution and wastewater collection system, construction and maintenance; three years of supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires a Massachusetts Grade 3, Water Distribution License or higher.
