Water Meter Installer Technician I

Job Description

The Water Meter Installer Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair and reading of water meters. This position is included under the Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA), Public Union Employee Local 1144A.

• Installs, repairs, maintains, and takes readings of commercial and residential water meters; assists in the repair of damaged water lines.
• Performs periodic preventative maintenance, and emergency troubleshooting, in the repair and maintenance of water meters and remote reading equipment.  Tests water meters for accuracy or registration.
• Installs and removes old meters; uses portable hand-held computers to test and read water meters.
• Participates in the department’s snow and ice removal program.
• Attends training sessions as required to maintain abreast of updates or changes in occupational safety requirements. Attends Training programs related to new water meters, water meter reading equipment, water meter testing or other related training for water meters.

High school diploma or equivalent; three to five years prior work experience installing or repairing water meters or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Class D Massachusetts driver’s license, Class B preferred. Massachusetts Drinking Water license Distribution – D1 required within six months, D2 required within one year of hire.

1144A Grade II: $30.52-$31.59 per hour, 40 hours per week
