Job Description

The town of Wellesley’s department of Public Works seeks an Assistant Superintendent for the Water and Sewer Division. Under the Superintendent’s direction, this position helps oversee water and sewer operations, regulatory compliance, system reliability, and emergency response, and serves as Superintendent in his/her absence.

Key Responsibilities include supervising and training Division personnel; supporting water supply, treatment, distribution, and wastewater operations; administering the automatic meter reading system; developing operational improvement plans; ensuring compliance with Federal, State, MWRA, DEP, and town regulations; assisting with emergency restoration; supporting operating and capital budgets; and using SCADA and PLC systems.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field, or six years of equivalent education and experience; at least two years of water and/or sewer utility management experience, including supervision and budget management; Distribution Class 2 and Treatment Class 1 certifications, or the ability to obtain them within one year; knowledge of water treatment, hydraulics, conveyance systems, construction, SCADA, and PLC systems; a valid Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License; and strong communication skills.

Expected hiring range is up to $114,676 and Full Hiring range is $97,596 to $131,755 DOQ, with numerous municipal benefits.
