The Town of Plymouth seeks qualified applicants for the position of Water Superintendent for the Department of Public Works, Water Division.

Responsible for the proper oversight and safe operation of Plymouth’s Water system, including the uninterrupted delivery and conveyance of Drinking Water in accordance with all regulatory standards, and providing leadership and management of the day-to-day operations of the Town’s Water Division.  Serves as the Primary Drinking Water Operator administering all necessary functions in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local regulatory requirements.  Coordinates the activities of the Water Division with the DPW.  Directs the construction, installation, and repair/maintenance of water projects; checks facilities and equipment for proper operation; troubleshoots breakdowns.  Prepares and implements Water Division annual operating budget including annual Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) budget and develops five and ten-year CIP plans.  Establishes and directs a general preventive maintenance program on all water systems and equipment; oversees contracted jobs; oversees chemical and bacterial testing; provides for proper site security, fences, locks, and controls of buildings, rounds, and equipment throughout the distribution system.  Prepares, procures and administers contracts for new and existing work to be done by private contractors; reviews plans and specifications for new building construction and/or renovations; identifies and plans construction to meet future system needs.  Inspects construction repair projects in the field and approves change orders.  For a complete outline of duties, minimum qualifications and requirements please refer to the job description available in the Human Resources office.

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, or a related field; eight to ten years of municipal experience with at least five years at a supervisory level; a proven track record in municipal project management, technical competence, administration, and personnel management.  Ability to meet deadlines, work cooperatively with others, and provide customer service in a professional manner; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses/Certifications:  Possession of a Massachusetts Treatment Plant Operator’s License, Grade III.  Possession of a Massachusetts Distribution System Operator’s License, Grade IV.  Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
