Water Technician

The Townsend Water Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Water Technician. This is a full-time 40 hr./wk. position. This position requires performing a variety of skilled manual and technical work in connection with the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system as well as responding to emergencies at all times including weekends and holidays. Employees are required to live within a 30 minute commute. Applicants possessing Massachusetts certified Drinking Water licenses in distribution and in treatment are preferred but, not mandatory. Any person hired that does not possess the required drinking water licenses shall be required to acquire them within two years from the date of hire. Training and classes are paid for by the Water Department. The position is a union position including benefits. Starting hourly rate of pay will be $18/hr. with increases available according to licenses possessed. Licensed drinking water personnel are required to take on call duty on a rotating basis at a current rate of $250. On call duty consists of one week, Friday afternoon to Friday morning the following week. The applicant must be physically able to work in extreme weather conditions. The applicant must possess excellent social skills to be able to effectively communicate with the public in a courteous, respectful manner. The applicant must be able to effectively work closely with co-workers as a team to maintain and promote a good healthy working environment. Applicants must possess a valid class D drivers license. The position requires a general knowledge in operating computers and working with word and excel.  Applications can be obtained at the Water Department office located at 540 Main St. in West Townsend or the Treasurer’s office located at Memorial Hall (Town Hall) 272 Main St., Townsend.
