Federal Qualified Opportunity Zone programs can promote sustainable economic growth by providing significant tax incentives to investors. Taking full advantage of these programs, however, requires an understanding of the tax incentives and challenges involved.

Municipal officials who want to learn more about these economic opportunities are invited to “Investment and Development in the Land of OZ (Opportunity Zones),” sponsored by Mintz on June 20 in Boston.

The discussion will cover the program’s key provisions; eligible investments; the compatibility of Opportunity Zones with municipal economic development strategies; initiatives undertaken by municipalities involved in the program; and the developer’s perspective on Opportunity Zones and their remaining challenges.

Panelists will include Lawrence Curtis, president and managing partner of WinnDevelopment; Rob May, director of planning and economic development for the city of Brockton; and Abraham (Avi) Reshtick, a business and tax lawyer at Mintz.

Mintz attorney Loretta Shaw-Lorello will moderate the discussion.

The event will be held at Mintz’s Boston office at One Financial Center, Conference Room 40D. Registration and check-in will run from 5 to 5:30 p.m., and the panel discussion will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
