The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources has published new farmland planning resources for municipalities, regional planning agencies and land trusts.
One of the resources, “Planning for Farmland in Massachusetts: An Overview at the Municipal and Regional Level,” covers tools for supporting and protecting farmland and understanding the role agriculture plays in a community.
The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources is offering a webinar on Sept. 23 at noon to provide an overview of the new resource and discuss key components of the document.
Registration is available online, and questions can be sent to MDAR Farmland Action Plan Coordinator Katharine Otto at [email protected].
The department has also published an online resource guide for municipalities participating in the Agricultural Preservation Restriction Program. The resources include a new document that outlines the application and enrollment process for the APR program, which serves to permanently preserve farmland for economic, cultural, and environmental purposes.
Additional information is available online or by contacting APR Acquisition Coordinator Ron Hall at [email protected].
