Who is a member?
Our members are the local governments of Massachusetts and their elected and appointed leadership.
Women Elected Municipal Officials will hold a virtual mentorship meeting on May 21, from noon to 1 p.m.
WEMO holds mentorship meetings to help members network with fellow women in elected office and get support from their peers on tough professional challenges. Any member, regardless of years of experience, is welcome to participate.
The spring topic is immigration enforcement and local governance. Discussion prompts include:
• What has immigration enforcement looked like in your community?
• How are you, as an elected municipal official, engaged in this issue?
• What statements have been made in your municipality? How have those been drafted? Who has drafted and/or released statements (governing bodies, town managers, police departments)?
• Has your community discussed or reacted to Gov. Maura Healey’s executive order regarding ICE activities?
Attendees are also encouraged to come with any question or challenge they’re currently dealing with in their capacities as elected municipal officials — regardless of topic — and share them in small groups for peer discussion and feedback.
Please note: The MMA and WEMO are nonpartisan organizations, so discussions about elections and campaigns are prohibited.
All virtual mentorship program meetings are free to attend. Click here to register for the May 21 meeting.
