Job Description

The Tyngsborough Police department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time Communications Specialist. The Communications Specialist serves within the Department’s Communications Division and is responsible for receiving, prioritizing, and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services, Highway, and Animal Control. Under the immediate supervision of the Communications Specialist Supervisor and the general supervision of the Chief of Police, Communications Specialists operate Computer-Aided Dispatch, telephone, radio, and computer systems; process law enforcement inquiries and data transactions; and provide Emergency Medical Dispatch pre-arrival instructions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Compensation: This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the town of Tyngsborough and MassCop Local 517. The salary range is $59,841.70-$78,665.89, depending on qualifications and experience, inclusive of all benefits extended to town of Tyngsborough employees.

Qualifications and Entrance Requirements:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and remain calm in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency staffing assignments.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Prior public safety dispatch experience and Massachusetts State 911 certifications are preferred, but not required. Paid training is provided for the right candidate.
