Working under the general direction of the Town Accountant, the Assistant Town Accountant performs complex administrative and technical work to ensure the accurate preparation and maintenance of Town financial records and compliance with all applicable procurement requirements. Performs a variety of accounting tasks to track municipal budgets, prepares required reports and records and provides information and assistance to town departments on accounting and budgeting procedures. Reconciles cash accounts and accounts receivable with the Treasurer/Collector’s Office. Assists with year-end reporting and the annual audit process. Performs the duties of the Town Accountant in his/her absence. Requires designation as a Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official, or the ability to obtain full certification within eighteen months of hire. Anticipated hiring range: $36.10-$41.20/hour; range maximum $47.01/hour. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field with three to five years experience; municipal accounting experience preferred.
