Our members are the local governments of Massachusetts and their elected and appointed leadership.
Seven culvert projects were included in the August announcement of Environment and Climate One Stop grants for projects across Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration announced a total of $750,000 in awards from the Culvert Replacement Municipal Assistance Grant Program and Culvert Replacement Training Site Initiative, as follows:
• Westborough: $180,000
• Braintree: $43,200
• Pepperell: $85,000
• Mount Washington: $101,800
• Hopkinton: $81,500
• Weston: $142,500
• Longmeadow: $116,000
The funding will help communities replace undersized and degraded culverts with safer crossings that improve fish and wildlife passage, restore natural river processes, and reduce flood and roadway hazards while supporting climate resiliency.
The three Training Site projects (Hopkinton, Weston and Longmeadow) will also help build municipal expertise by creating demonstration sites where communities can learn from culvert replacement projects that meet Massachusetts Stream Crossing Standards.
The Division of Ecological Restoration has also released a narrative resource, The Hidden World Beneath Our Roads, that highlights the department’s multi-year efforts to assess and replace culverts and bridges as a means to combat climate change.
ECO One Stop is accepting expressions of interest for its fiscal 2028 grant cycle through Oct. 16.
