POSITION: Assistant Collector – Taxes (75 Hours/Biweekly)
GRADE: Grade 6 ($60,955.70 – $72,218.33)
DEPARTMENT: Treasurer/Collector
DATE: August 4, 2026
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the municipal treasury operations of the town by billing, collecting, and processing all tax payments; reconciling financial accounts; and delivering high-quality public customer service. This role maintains accurate records, manages delinquent accounts, and elevates issues and concerns to the Treasurer/Collector, as appropriate.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
High school diploma required; Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field preferred. Three to five years of progressively responsible work in municipal finance, accounting, or a closely related office environment. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements: Must be bondable to handle municipal funds securely.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Working knowledge of the legal requirements and regulations governing municipal financial operations and collection procedures.
Ability: Ability to handle all communications appropriately and tactfully with the general public and other town departments. Ability to express oneself in oral and written form. Ability to attend to a significant amount of details, such as: computing, posting, proving and reconciling data in order to prepare financial statements and reports. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with others, especially co-workers, employees of other departments and members of the general public.
Skill: Proficiency with office software (Outlook, Excel, Word) and specialized municipal/accounting software (QDS Core, Zobrio Cash Management). Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Aptitude for working with numbers and attention to details. Skill in operating standard office equipment.
