Job Description

Data analysis work is performed under the continuing supervision of a Police Sergeant or higher-level officer in the Criminal Investigations Unit. This is law enforcement work assisting with the collection, collation, and analysis of crime data and the dissemination of analyzed crime information.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Research, compile, and analyze crime and related data from multiple sources.
    • Analyze traffic accidents, noise complaints, and other quality-of-life issues.
    • Use research methods and statistical analysis to identify crime trends, patterns, and series.
    • Maintain manual and automated systems for data storage and retrieval.
    • Develop crime forecasts, target profiles, and investigative leads.
    • Convert raw data into actionable criminal intelligence.
    • Analyze crime reports, arrest data, modus operandi information, and related records.
    • Prepare and distribute reports, bulletins, newsletters, and crime trend summaries.
    • Provide analytical support for strategic and tactical departmental decisions.
    • Train staff in geographic information systems and related processes.
    • Ensure departmental data accuracy and evaluate program effectiveness.
