Assistant Director of Public Works – Administration

The town seeks a highly motivated and experienced professional to serve as Assistant Director of Public Works – Administration. This leadership position supports the Director in overseeing departmental operations, administration, budgeting, personnel management, procurement, grants, and strategic planning.

The successful candidate will manage administrative staff, coordinate short- and long-term projects, oversee contracts and bidding processes, monitor budgets and expenditures, perform financial and operational analyses, and respond to resident inquiries and service requests. The position also assists with personnel administration, collective bargaining preparation, regulatory compliance, grant management, and departmental communications.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in public administration, civil engineering, or a related field, and three to five years of supervisory experience in public works, municipal government, or a related setting; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Strong financial management, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are required. Experience with Microsoft Office and MUNIS is preferred.

This position requires occasional evening meetings, emergency response availability, and a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
